Crested Butte Vacation Travel Blog

Welcome to the Purple Mountain’s Crested Butte Vacation Travel Blog

To help you make the most of your vacation, this page is designed to give me an opportunity to share with you all that is going on in Crested Butte. As I get out on the trails or head out around town, I will periodically add my activities to this page. Feel free to make comments or ask questions. One of the big reasons I love running a bed and breakfast in Crested Butte is that I enjoy sharing all the great things that this town and the surrounding wilderness have to offer.

Crested Butte's Free Concerts
June 20, 2011

One of my favorite parts about summers in Crested Butte is all the free music. On Monday evenings there is a free concert in Town Park. You are allowed to bring picnics and they sell beer, wine and alcohol. The type of music changes up week to week and the concerts end at sunset. They offer more free music with a similar setup on the mountain at the base of the ski slopes on Wednesdays. With the free bus shuttle running from town to the mountain every 20 minutes it is always easy to get there and back.

25th Annual Crested Butte Alley Race
February 5, 2011

This year was the 25th Annual Alley Race that starts in town, hit many of our alley streets and heads out around town on our nordic trails. This race brings in some serious racers as well as those just looking for an excuse to throw on a costume and have a good time in the snow. The race offers 1.5 km, 3km, 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km length races with a separate start time for the classic and skate skiers doing the 42 km. This was a shot from the starting line.

The View from Our Breakfast Table
January 27, 2010

Since I purchased the Purple Mountain Lodge in 2003, I have been very grateful for all the wonderful response we have received about our breakfast. As the years have past, we have continued to add to our collection of breakfast recipes and continue to strive to offer the perfect breakfast.

I believe the breakfast ranks among the top three reasons why people choose a B&B in the first place:
1) A comfortable accommodation offering great character.
2) The food worthy of the stay in and of itself.
3) And the local knowledge and personal service to help you make the most of your vacation.

Over the past year we have added our own home made jams to go along with our croissants and biscuits, a new Oatmeal Cookie recipe that everyone is trying to get from me, and a commitment to offering organic and locally grown foods when available. Being that our breakfasts are known for being large, we are also now offering half size servings. We have also started to offer early morning “Health Start, Quick Start” breakfasts for those getting out before our normal breakfast hours (8 to 9 am). And finally, because of all those who have come needing challenging specialty diets we have even been able to recreate some of our famous breakfast like the Banana Nut Belgium Waffle to be Gluten Free (available upon request). Please let us know at the time of the reservation what we can do for you.
