Crested Butte Vacation Travel Blog

Welcome to the Purple Mountain’s Crested Butte Vacation Travel Blog

To help you make the most of your vacation, this page is designed to give me an opportunity to share with you all that is going on in Crested Butte. As I get out on the trails or head out around town, I will periodically add my activities to this page. Feel free to make comments or ask questions. One of the big reasons I love running a bed and breakfast in Crested Butte is that I enjoy sharing all the great things that this town and the surrounding wilderness have to offer.

Perfect Summer of Mountain Biking and Hiking
May 9, 2012

About the photos above: The first one was taken in Hartman Rocks at the end of March! The second one was taken after a dusting of snow the other day up on the Upper Loop with Mt. Crested Butte in the background.

We are lining up for the perfect Summer of Mountain Biking and Hiking. So far in 2012 the only month that we have not been able to ride was February. Hartman Rocks in Gunnison (30min away) offers over 20 different trails with a Moab style of riding. Check out Hartman Rocks for more information. In the Crested Butte area we already have the following trails open and riding nicely:
Strand Hill
Lupine Trial
Upper Loop/ Tony’s Trail/ Whetstone Vista
Trail 409
Wailrod Cutoff Trail 408: The Caves Loop
For up to date trail reports please visit Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association.
Or give us a call and we would be happy to share what we have seen out on the trails!

Al Johnson Uphill / Downhill Race
March 27, 2012

This race has a long standing tradition here in Crested Butte. Yes, it is a telemark race that requires the participants to skin up and ski down some extreme terrain. But more importantly everyone dresses in their best costumes. Almost any event seems to come with costumes in Crested Butte but this is the one that everyone spends the year planning for. It is always a great event for spectators! (However, if you are up for the challenge you can participate.) Here is a shot at the finish line which this year was right next to the Paradise Warming Hut Bar. And what a perfectly sunny day to sit outside and enjoy!

Big Head Todd and the Monsters at FestEVOL
March 18, 2012

Today we had some late season snow that added 4 more inches to our ski day. Guster opened for the FestEVOL shows today. As the show went on the snow just came down harder. The bands were great sports about it dressing in ski gear to fight the elements. As Big Head Todd and the Monsters played it started to really dump but no one was willing to leave until it was over. Thank you EVOL Burritos for another great event!!!

Bare Naked Ladies play at Crested Butte’s FestEVOL
March 17, 2012

What better way to wrap up a sunny day of skiing than to enjoy a crowd pleasing performance by the Bare Naked Ladies. FestEVOL is a weekend concert series that has been going for the last three years here in Crested Butte put on by EVOL Burritos.
